BROCKZEMAN: MUSIC

D'Arcy Plunkett

(Brock Zeman)
D'arcy Plunkett was a good honest man
He came from a familyof hard-working boys
He was the fancy of many a fine lady
They say when it came his time he could have his choice
His Daddy was hard as the nails that he drove
And as old-fashioned as the hammer in his hand
And tears filled his eyes when he looked up with pride
At his little boy who'd become a man
Then came the day when D'arcy found himself a woman
Of beauty so rare he'd never seen before in this world
But times were different then and D'arcy being a white man
Wasn't to be messing round with no Indian girl
So he loved her in secrecy beneath a crooked cypress tree
Behind the church where they'd talk the whole day through
Knowing there would come a day when both of their hearts would break
So often is the case with a love that's so true

One day he came home and his Father said, Where you been now D'arcy
Secrets are a burden that can make your tongue unfurl
He said, Daddy I'm in love, yeah I found myself a woman
Daddy I'm in love with an Indian girl

When the town found out it was much to their surprise
Lord they just couldn't seem to understand
And Darcy could heard them talking whenever they'd walk by
Through the streets of Darby holding hands
But a man will always stand up for the things that he loves
He'll cross any ocean and take any risk
With the lips he used kissed her he soon learned to defend her
And the hands that held her close soon clenched into fists
One day he went to meet her, and beneath that old cypress
Was a note that D'arcy read with a trembling hand
It said, I love you D'arcy, but I can't live this way
In another life love, we'll meet again
But he saddled his horse and he rode like the devil
With his poor heart broken right in two
But she left not a trace and D'arcy couldn't find her way
And he broke down and cried when he saw it was no use

Now D'arcy's an old man and everyone in Darby
Thinks he's crazy and he ain't got one friend in the world
And both day and night he sits beneath that crooked Cypress
Waiting for his Indian girl.
