The whole day through it looked like rain
And the clouds looked like coffee stains
There's something bad coming around the bend
The manholes they all screamed and hissed
Something in the air smelled like piss
This whole town's going up come two a.m.
And the hard boys they were drinking hard liquor
And the band was playing something rock n' roll
And everyone was dancing all around the bar
And there's blood on the hardwood floor
The bouncer was a nervous wreck
He was smoking cigarettes
Thinking he don't get paid enough
And all it took was a sideways glance
And he knew everything in advance
That all his troubles were still yet to come
Outside there was thunder and there was lightning
As a rain of rats and hogs starts to pour
And you could hear beer bottles crashing all around the bar
And there's blood on the hardwood floor
Don't you know when the clock struck two
Some fool was waving a broken cue
And someone was getting trampled on the ground
From the payphone someone called the police
And when they come through the door folks scattered like thieves
It's just another night in this goddamned town
And the waitress she was wiping down the tables
Hoping her key was under the mat by the door
And everyone was laughing all around the bar
And there's blood on the hardwood floor
Next week we'll just read it in the paper
Just to see if it was someone we know
But we'll have to wait till Wednesday to find out what went on
And whose blood's on the hardwood floor
